Rhythms – Adrian Jackson

Jazz and soul coexist in Lily Dior’s repertoire, and in her vocal style. Her latest release finds the Sydney singer leaning more towards her soul/funk side, although there is also some splendid instrumental work from the likes of James Greening (trombone), Matt Keegan (tenor) and Brendan St Ledger (keyboards). It’s mostly original material, one exception being ‘Who Needs You’, a song Billie Holiday wrote but never recorded.

This is an impressive production – a tight core band, augmented variously with horns, strings and backing singers. Throughout, the spotlight is on Dior’s singing, sassy, soulful, passionate and strong.
